Sarah Anne Hartford
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Simon Pulse (01 April, 1996)
Author: Kathleen Duey
Average review score:

Brings Puritan Massachusetts to life.
Sarah is a twelve-year-old Puritan girl living in Massachusetts in 1651. She is dreadfully unhappy because she fears her widowed father plans to marry a strict woman who dislikes Sarah and considers her to be poorly behaved. Playing on Sundays is strictly forbidden by the Puritan church. But one Sunday after a snow storm, Sarah and her best friend, Elizabeth (whose parents are considered to be somewhat freethinking for Puritans) can't help themselves, and they start to play in the snow, when they notice someone watching them and flee. Later, Mistress Goddard (Sarah's potential future stepmother) comes forward and announces that she saw Elizabeth and her brother Roger (she thought Sarah was Roger because she had borrowed his coat) broke the rules of the Sabbath. Now Roger will be punished when Sarah is the one who broke the rules. Can Sarah find the courage to come forward with the truth? I highly reccomend this excellant, detailed historical novel.

All Time Favorite

Intense
The 3rd story of this series is intense. It was hard to put the book down as I hoped for a way for Daniel and Taregon to make peace with their past and the things that drove them apart. After Daniel unwittingly betrayed his family I was in agony as I wondered how everything was going to work out in the end. It is so good to read about a piece of history that is so often neglected in our American history books. I greatly enjoy reading about the Native Americans and wish things could have worked out differently and wonder what our world would be like today if they had.

A Wonderful Book!
The third installment in this wonderful series. This one started a little slower but once I got into it I couldn't put it down. I am anxious to get into the 4th book. I know I will be sorry there are only 5. However, I have now purchased several of her other books. She is a wonderful writer. Thank you Angela Hunt--keep writing!

Islamic Marriage
Published in Paperback by Dar Al-Fikr (January, 2000)
Author: Hedaya Hartford

Good Book
This is a great book for married couples who would like to have a good marriage from beggining to end. It is really like a book that tells you how you should act together, and you have to do the work yourself. I really enjoyed the list of THINGS TO AVOID it gave a listing of men or women you should avoid before you concider them for marriage. There is so much information in this book, so many ayat of Quran backing all of her words, and so many adhadith that support her paragraphs, you can not argue with your spouse again because there is an answer for every problem. If you are thinking of getting married, please buy this book!

EXCELLENT
Absolutely, the best marriage book I have come across, that is actually useful, and appliable. Each chapter is filled with hadith and Quran that we all have read but never took time to apply with those we love. The advice in this book is clearly the truth, and it will save all of us a lot of time if we understand the content before we get married, or even consider marriage.

This book opens the door to communication to those who are married and who find themselves "trapped" or making the wrong desisions over and over, this book puts a halt to waswisa, and bad communication skills learned throughout the years.

This book is even better for those who are thinking of getting married, but who are not quite sure who to marry, or who to look for! AN EXCELLENT TEXT BY AN EXCELLENT TEACHER!

Bayreuth: The Early Years
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (February, 1981)
Author: Robert Hartford
Average review score:

Fine Documentary Collection
This book intelligently presents the most important and interesting eye-witness accounts of the early Bayreuth festivals, by such musical luminaries as Tchaikovsky and Grieg, and a host of other interested observers. These documents, while often quoted, are hard to find, and are impossible to find in any other single source.

Be sure the check out Mark Twain's superbly satiric "At the Shrine of Saint Wagner," on his attempts to enjoy Parsifal in the hot, dusty town with few restaurants and fewer hotel rooms!

Christian-Muslim Encounters
Published in Hardcover by University Press of Florida (October, 1995)
Authors: Yvonne Yazbeck Haddad, Wadi Zaydan Haddad, Hartford Seminary Foundation, and Wadi Zaidan Haddad
Average review score:

Christian-Muslim Encounters.
Relations between Christians and Muslims go back nearly 1,400 years and have been troubled on many levels through nearly that entire span of time. The twenty-eight contributions to this substantial tome do not offer an overview of these complex interactions but constitute a miscellany of journal-type articles-interesting in themselves but too scattered to provide a coherent picture. Some authors deal with theological issues ("What say ye of Muhammad"?) while others concern themselves with the issues on the ground (communal relations between Muslims, Christians, and Hindus in the Indian state of Kerala). We learn about such arcana as the impressions of early modern French travelers of Muslim death practices and the attitude of John Calvin on Islamic theology; but nothing about the Crusades or the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II.

Even so, the scholarship does point to some major themes: (1) the Christian-Muslim experience on every level has been primarily one of confrontation, from military to theological; (2) bright spots have appeared increasingly over the centuries, as believers of liberal spirit on both sides have sought to go beyond hostility; and (3) even as the masses continue the antagonistic relations of old, some religious leaders are trying to reach out and find common ground. So far, however, these efforts are more notable for the goodwill that animates them than for their actual accomplishments.

Domesticating the Street: The Reform of Public Space in Hartford, 1850-1930 (Urban Life and Urban Landscape Series)
Published in Paperback by Ohio State Univ Pr (Txt) (October, 1999)
Author: Peter C. Baldwin
Average review score:

Hartford's fascinating history
"Domesticating the Street" tells the story of the city of Hartford as it developed in the 19th century from a Yankee, homogenous place to a bustling, highly diverse, challenging salad bowl of immigrants working hard to survive and come to terms with their new world. The book reveals the story of the prostitutes who had claimed an area not far from the Old State House; and the "newsies," immigrant children who sold newspapers in flagrant disregard for Yankee strictures about domesticity, care of children, family structure, or mingling with strangers. It's a great book, one of the few about Hartford that is in print. It was thoroughly researched, nicely cited, and is a mainstay for classes and individuals studying the history of one of America's oldest towns.

High Standard: A Collector's Guide to the Hamden & Hartford Target Pistols
Published in Paperback by Andrew Mowbray Inc., Publishers (01 June, 1991)
Author: Tom Dance
Average review score:

A must for High Standard shooters
If, like me, you are a target shooter who uses a High Standard pistol this book is a must. It helps to identify every model and every variation of High Standard. It help to understand the history of the pistol and the steps that lead to the final evolution of it. The only thing lacking - not too important - is data on pistols manufactured after High Standard went out of business.

Unpardonable Sins: A Father's Fight for Justice
Published in Hardcover by New Horizon Press (May, 1992)
Authors: Robert M. McQueeney and Bob Vacon
Average review score:

A realistic account of the tragedy of false abuse allegation
This account is very real and true to life. I know because I have lived through an almost the exact same case as Mr. McQueeney. If you are a father, you owe it to your child to read this book. It accurately accounts what can happen to you if an ex-spouse decides to use against you what has become known as the "nuclear weapon of the custody battle."

Read this book to know what can happen to you. Be prepared so you won't be blindsided. The same thing that happened to Mr. McQueeney happened to me. Knowing the way these cases work ahead of time would have saved me tens of thousands of dollars and spared my son the agony of his mother's abuse.
